Corporate Team Event in Riga: How to Organize One in an Escape Room

Corporate Team Event in Riga: How to Organize One in an Escape Room

From 6 to 30 people, split across rooms or running a department tournament. A practical guide to planning a corporate team event in Riga any time of year.

Corporate events in Riga tend to run the same way: a table booked at a restaurant, two hours of polite small talk, and everyone mostly chatting with the people they already sit next to at the office. An escape room breaks that. For 60 minutes the team has to solve puzzles together, and suddenly the accountant and the developer are arguing about how to open the safe. That argument is the whole point of a team event.

How many people and how to split a big team

One room usually fits 2 to 7 players. We have around 10 different rooms, so a large group can be split and several teams can play at the same time.

A few reference points to work from:

  • 6-7 people: one room, one team. The simplest setup.
  • 10-14 people: two rooms in parallel. Afterwards both groups swap stories about where they got stuck.
  • 15-30 people: three to five rooms at once, or a couple of waves.

When you split the groups, don't put one department together. Mix sales with engineering, managers with new hires. That kind of team building works best, because people start cooperating with colleagues they normally only nod to in the hallway.

A tournament between departments

If you want some competition, send several teams into identical or similarly difficult rooms and compare results. Whoever gets out faster, or uses fewer hints, wins.

Some pairings suit a duel like this. Time Machine and Captain's Room are both adventure-level and fit mixed groups. For a harder fight, put the Secret Room against Journey to Soviet Riga, both built for experienced players. A game master watches each group and steps in if anyone gets stuck, so no team ends up completely cornered.

A tournament has a side effect that's hard to manufacture on purpose: people talk about it for the next week at the office. The losers want a rematch, the winners keep bringing up the score over coffee.

What to do before and after

The game itself runs about an hour. With arrival, the briefing, and a group photo afterwards, plan for an hour and a half to two hours on site.

Before the game, tell the team one simple thing: this isn't an IQ test and nobody is grading you. People relax and play more boldly. Afterwards, most groups want to keep the evening going. The Old Town is right there, so moving to a café or restaurant takes a few minutes, and the conversation at the table is different now, because there's something to talk about.

When you pick a room, factor in who's coming. Bunker and Journey to Soviet Riga are heavier and meant for ages 14+, while Experiment and House of Secrets are straight horror, 16+. If the team has mixed tastes, lighter themes like Sherlock Holmes or James Bond are the safer call.

Why not just in December

Most companies only remember a team event right before Christmas, when every slot is booked and prices are higher. But a team doesn't bond once a year. Wrapping up a big project in spring, welcoming a new hire, or just a Friday afternoon with no reason at all works just as well, without the December rush.

Corporate events in Riga don't need to be saved up for one month. If you want to plan a team outing at any time of year and aren't sure which room and how many groups fit your crew, tell us how many of you there will be and what you're after.
