Gift ideas for a man who has everything: 7 options

Gift ideas for a man who has everything: 7 options

A man who buys whatever he needs is the hardest person to shop for. Seven ideas with prices, and one question that shows quickly which of them fits him.

Gift ideas for a man who has everything: seven options

The problem is always the same. He buys the things he needs himself, and faster than you do, so what is left is what he would find awkward to buy for himself or would never think of.

  • An escape room with his friends. 60 minutes in a team of 2 to 7. Good for the man who never organises an evening himself but always turns up when someone else does.
  • A hands-on workshop. Blacksmithing, pottery, a butchery or bread course. It also leaves an object he made himself.
  • Karting or a shooting range. For the one who wants a results table rather than an atmosphere.
  • A tasting. Wine, whisky, coffee. One condition: he has to actually care about the subject, or it is a two-hour lecture.
  • Tickets to a match or a gig. You need to know the team or the band, which is easier than guessing a shirt size.
  • A sauna with friends. For older men this lands more often than anything with a countdown timer.
  • The tool he wanted but would not pay for. The only object on this list, and it comes with a rule: you have to know the exact model.

The first option is ours. It is here because it solves the usual problem with presents for men: he does not need another thing on a shelf, he needs a reason to clear an evening.

When nothing else fits

An hour he plays through with his friends

  • A room for 2 to 7 people, 60 minutes, from 60 €
  • He picks the date and the team himself
  • Nine rooms, from a bank heist to an abandoned house

One question that narrows the choice

Before buying, answer one thing: who will he do it with. The answer removes half the list.

  • With friends. An escape room, karting, a sauna. Here the present is also an excuse to meet, which is usually worth more than the activity.
  • With you. A workshop, a tasting, an evening for two. There are ideas for the whole evening in this piece.
  • Alone. A tool, a book, a subscription. Activities do not work here: someone who rests alone comes home tired from an event with six people.

The second test: would he have chosen it himself if you had handed him the money? If not, the present is about you.

Friends playing a game together at a table

What it costs

An experience gift is priced per room rather than per person, so he can bring friends and the amount stays the same.

  • Weekdays before 18:00: 60 € per room.
  • Weekdays after 18:00 and on Friday: 80 €.
  • Weekends and public holidays: 100 €.
  • Five players included; each extra player is 10 €, a child under 14 is 5 €.

Sixty euros buys an hour for five people. The same money spent on an object usually buys one thing for one person, and a month later it is just part of the furniture.

Which room to pick

If you want to give a specific scenario rather than a card, choose by what he watches.

If the team includes experienced players, there is a list of the hardest rooms.

What does not work

Four presents that appear on every list for men and go unused every year.

  • A shaving set or shower gel. Not a present so much as an announcement that you ran out of ideas.
  • Another mug or tie. Same situation, different shelf.
  • A membership he did not ask for. The gym turns into an obligation and a guilt trip by February.
  • An activity on a fixed date nobody agreed on. If he already has plans that evening, the gift becomes a problem.

A card fixes the last one: he picks the time. There is a separate piece on why an experience outlasts an object, and a general list of presents without wrapping here.

When you barely know him

This happens more often than anyone admits: a colleague, a brother-in-law, a friend's husband. Three questions you can answer in one conversation, and that is enough.

  • What does he do on a free weekend with nothing planned? The answer tells you whether he needs quiet or an event.
  • When did he last do something with friends? If the answer is "a while ago", a present that comes with company is an excuse to fix that.
  • Does he have a hobby he brings up himself? If so, the present is there. If not, pick a format that needs no prior interest.

An escape room fits that third case exactly: nothing to be good at, no rules to know, no fitness required. The briefing takes five minutes and the team does the rest.

How to hand it over

The weak point of an experience gift is the moment of giving: an envelope looks thin. Two minutes fixes that.

  • Put the card together with a small object from the scenario: a magnifying glass for the detective room, an old compass for The Bunker.
  • Write one sentence about why you chose that particular room. It changes the weight of the present more than the wrapping does.
  • If it is a present from several people, say that the team is already assembled. Then he has nothing left to organise.

How far ahead to buy

A card can be arranged on any day, 24 December included. What runs short is not cards but slots: December evenings and weekends fill faster than the rest of the year.

So two steps. First, buy the card when you think of it rather than during the holiday week. Second, tell him to book a time in January while the calendar is still open. If the present is meant for one specific evening, take the slot yourself before handing it over, and put a confirmed date in the envelope.

Questions people ask

How much is a gift card?

You choose it on the gift card page. As a guide: a room costs from 60 € on a weekday to 100 € at the weekend, and the price includes five players.

Can he bring friends?

Yes. The price covers a room with five players; each extra player is 10 €. The largest room, Sherlock Holmes, takes seven.

Does the card work for any room?

It does, and he picks the date and time himself on the booking page.

What if he has never played before?

There is a briefing first and the game master follows the whole hour. For a first-timer, take a medium room rather than House of Mysteries.

How long should the evening be?

The game is 60 minutes, or about an hour and a half with the briefing and photos.

If the answer to "who will he do it with" is "his friends", the choice is already made. All that is left is whether to give a specific room or a card he uses on his own terms.
